All the Mediums of Public Conveyance, for travellers, letters, and merchandize, are specified, with the periods and places of arrival and departure.

ALNWICK, BERWICK, NORTH SHIELDS, BAMBROUGH, GATESHEAD, SOUTH SHIELDS, BELFORD, NEWCASTLE, SUNDERLAND, AND THEIR LOCALITIES

This is a large and detailed directory of over 1,000 pages covering the whole of County Durham. As is often the case, the map produced for sale with the directory is not present. As we started to scan the book we found that pp 15/16 were missing but reference to the index indicates that they contained only a minor reference to Pytheas, Hanno and Himilco, the main text of the book starting at p 17.
Some pages suffer from minor skew printing and ink bleed/fading but all of the text is legible.
The directory comprises: Seats & Residences of the Nobility & Gentry; County Palatine of Durham; Gazetteers & Directories of the cities, towns & parishes of each Ward of the County; Municipal Corporations of the County of Durham; History & Directory of Newcastle Upon Tyne; Removals, Alterations etc; Geology of the Lake District.
