The copy used for scanning is largely disbound and is missing the first 24 pages and all but the last 4 of the 22 advertisement pages at the end. Otherwise, though some pages suffer from crude re-binding with tape, warping/skew printing and ink bleed, the rest of the directory is entirely present and all of the text is legible. The missing section comprised the General History of Nottinghamshire. The remainder of the directory (720 scanned images in total) is complete and comprises: History of the Town and County of the Town of Nottingham; Directory of Nottingham (including Radford & Sneinton Parishes); Gazetteers & Directories of each of the Parishes in each Hundred of the County (including major towns: Mansfield, Newark, Retford, Worksop).

The book used for scanning is fragile with a number of skew printed pages; the title page and pages 1 & 2 have been torn out and there are also tears on a number of other pages. The result is minor textual loss but all information is readable. Unusually for a directory of this age the county map has survived, though it too was torn along its folds and has been repaired. Despite these problems the directory is complete and includes "every city, town and principal village" in the county. There are also lists of UK Bankers and 22 pages of advertisements. Some of the scanned pages appear not to be straight. This is a feature of the original book rather than the scanning process.

Francis White's Directory of Nottinghamshire 1864
The History of each parish is followed by a Directory, containing the names, and addresses of the principal inhabitants. No expense has been spared in collecting this information, experienced agents having visited every house and place of business throughout the county, and the information so collected has been compiled with the greatest attention.
A note from the publisher. This directory was found in a very sorry state...hardly recognisable as a book! No covers, most of the pages loose and the binding all but gone. Many pages are dirty, torn & very poor. We are amazed at the quality we have been able to achieve in scanning and with a little work to the images we have produced a facsimile CD-Book that is 100% readable - and of a excellent reproduction quality.
